Gender Equality

Nov.26 Invitation --- 'The role of gender equality and women’s empowerment in sustainable development'

20 November 2019

Gender equality has been identified by the UN and World Bank, as well as the EU and ASEAN, as a key aspect of sustainable development. Yet promises to improve gender equality have not always been fulfilled. On the occasion of the EU-ASEAN dialogue on human rights, the EU-Asia Centre, together with the EEAS, is organising a public event to discuss the gender dimension of sustainable development and aim to raise awareness of the importance of gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment as a necessary foundation for the peaceful, secure, prosperous and sustainable societies. What and where are best practices in gender equality and empowerment of women and girls? To what extent are policy makers aware of the gender issue in pursuit of SDGs? How to mainstream gender equality in the wider debate about human rights and sustainable development?

To discuss these and other questions you are invited to a panel discussion from 17:00 to 18:30 on 26 November at Martin’s Hotel, Boulevard Charlemagne 80, 1000 Brussels.
